Scope & Contents

The Jackson Sub-regional Office was originally part of UAW Region 1B, which covered plants in Jackson, Pontiac, Washtenaw County, Kalamazoo, and Albion. In 1959, the regional offices were reorganized, and the Jackson area was placed under Region 1C, which then covered plants in Jackson, Flint, Lansing, Albion, Adrian, and Owosso. The Jackson Sub-regional Office coordinated UAW activities in the southwestern portion of region 1C. Two UAW international representatives in the Jackson office, Webb Magnor and Harold Marsh, were extensively involved in local civic, political, and charitable activities.

The records of the UAW Region 1C: Jackson Sub-regional Office consist of correspondence, minutes, notes, contracts, newsletters, and financial material. Most of the files relate to relations between the UAW locals and companies in the region; there are also a considerable number of files relating to civic and charitable activities in the Jackson area and to the Michigan Democratic Party.
