John P. Jurkanin served the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen of North America (AMC & BWNA) Local 500 in Cleveland, Ohio for twenty-eight years as financial secretary, business agent and president. He established the Ohio State Branch of the
AMC & BWNA and was a member of the National Packinghouse Negotiating Committee of the International. He resigned as president of Local 500 in February, 1964.
The papers of John P. Jurkanin consist of correspondence, reports, minutes, financial records, newspaper clippings, articles and pamphlets reflecting the activities of Local 500 and the Ohio State Branch of the AMC & BWNA as well as Mr. Jurkanin’s involvement in civil rights, pacifist and reformist political movements.
