The papers of the League of Women Voters of Detroit were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in May of 1989 by the League and were opened for research in November of 1991.
The Detroit League of Women Voters was formed in November, 1919 from its predecessor, the Detroit Equal Suffrage League. The League's purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government by studying and taking action on government issues that are metropolitan and regional in scope. The League of Women Voters of Detroit is financed in large part by voluntary contributions from individuals who believe that the League's policies make for good government and are in the best interest of the community.
The papers of the League of Women Voters of Detroit consist of a report on Women's credit rights in Detroit, entitled "Women and Mortgage Credit", compiled in 1979-1980 by Patricia G. Valerius, Project Manager. The project was financed with funds from the League of Women Voters Education Fund under a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (H.U.D.).
