Part 2 of the William Oliver Collection contains correspondence, reports, minutes and meeting notes reflecting Mr. Oliver’s involvement with the NAACP throughout the 1970s and 1980s as an NAACP vice-president and as president of the organization’s National Housing Corporation, created in 1971. Also included are records of his activities during the late 1950s and early 1960s with the Sunnyhills Cooperative, an integrated, low-income housing community set up under the auspices of the UAW Fair Practices Department. After Walter Reuther’s death in 1970, Leonard Woodcock named William Oliver sole director of the UAW Fair Practices Department. Mr. Oliver died in Detroit, Michigan on May 30, 1994.
