The papers of UAW Local 7 were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in May of 1966 by Martin Saurine and were opened for research in December of 1993.
Local 7 is the bargaining agent for workers in the Chrysler Jefferson Auto Plant in Detroit. The local formed when the membership of the UAW and Automobile Industrial Workers Association affiliated on July 1, 1936, and received formal recognition after the five-week sit-down strike in 1937.
The UAW Local 7 papers consist of strike settlements, grievances, committee and officer minutes, correspondence, election results, agreements, resolutions, by-laws, constitutions, bulletins, clippings, and legal and financial records. They include material covering the 1950 Chrysler Strike, election results for the 1950s, grievances for the 1940s-1950s, and Plant Shop Committee, Executive Board, and Officer minutes for the mid-1940s to the mid-1960s.
