,
Haviland F. Reves willed parts of his papers to several
repositories including the Wayne State University Archives. His bequest was administered by his
niece, Mrs. Munck who placed the collection in the archives on December 7,
1972. Mrs. Munck sorted Reves’
material according to the conditions of the will and determined which material
belonged to Wayne State University.
The collection has been arranged alphabetically (“A-Z”).
Haviland Reves was a student at College of the City of
Detroit (Wayne State University) c1920s majoring in journalism. Some of the materials in the collection
represent his class notes and correspondence with friends during his college
years. Other Wayne State
University materials represent his activity as a member of the Alumni Association
in which he corresponded with such persons as William R. Keast, past president of the university and Homer D. Strong, the first Director of
Alumni Relations.
Reves was also active in many civic and community
organizations. He was the archivist
in charge of the campaign to preserve the Old City Hall Building in Detroit
from 1959-1965. As a result, he
was involved in Detroit politics and had many contacts among influential
business people. He also worked as
a technical writer for the Fox Theater and was a member of several professional
writing associations. Reves also
was involved in the politics of building the James Couzens Highway.
The materials in this collection include campaign
literature in the preservation of the Old Detroit City Hall building, Detroit
and Michigan historical and business societies, City College of Detroit student
notes, assorted Wayne University material, business files containing book and
show reviews and name files, scrapbooks of clippings on Detroit, show business,
and business forms, and Michigan pamphlets.
