UAW Region 10, created out of the division of Region 4 at the 1949 Constitutional Convention, encompassed the Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and Montana areas. At the 1992 convention, Region 10 merged once again with Region 4, which now includes the same states as the pre-1949 Region 4. Most of Region 10’s membership was concentrated in the automobile and agricultural implement industries of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Raymond Majerus succeeded the region’s first director, Harvey Kitzman, in 1972 and remained in that post until his election as Secretary-Treasurer of the UAW in 1980.
The UAW Region 10 Collection consists primarily of reports, news releases, clippings and other material documenting strikes at Mueller Climatrol and Kohler Company and correspondence, financial records and other material related to contract negotiations, grievance arbitration and insurance and pension plans in Wisconsin and Minnesota locals administered by the region.
