Scope & Contents
The papers of E. H. Kohlhagen were placed in the Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs in April of 1976 by Mr. Kohlhagen and were opened for research in February of 1985.
Egbert H. Kohlhagen was born in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin on October 9, 1906. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1924 and attended Sheboygan Business College for one year. In 1925 he joined the general office accounting department of the Kohler Company. When the independent Kohler Workers Association (KWA) was officially organized in September of 1933, Mr. Kohlhagen was elected a Division Steward. He became a charter member of UAW Local 833 in 1952 when the KWA was affiliated with the International Union, UAW.
He was elected to the office of Recording Secretary of Local 833 and held this post until his retirement in 1975. Upon his retirement he received the Walter P. Reuther Award for his "outstanding and distinguished service to the union and its membership."
