James Carey served as secretary-treasurer of the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) and worked for the Office of Production Management in Washington D.C. during World War II. Mr. Carey also served as president of the International Union of Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers (IUE) and as the labor liaison officer to the United Nations Association. The papers of Mr. Carey reflect his interest in international labor issues and document his work for the AFL-CIO, the IUE, and the UN.
