An early socialist and officer in AFSCME, Ernest Mazey helped organize UAW members in Detroit. He later became involved with the American Civil Liberties Union, serving as executive director of the Michigan state chapter for thirteen years. His papers reflect his involvement in UAW organizing and his interest in social and political problems, as well as his concern with peace and civil liberties issues.
