The collection consists of correspondence, press releases, memoranda, bill summaries, campaign material, legislative newsletters and reports, and fact sheets concerning areas related to Mr. Miller's activities in Michigan government. During the period 1958-59, Miller was secretary to Michigan Attorney General Paul L. Adams, and was involved in the Criminal Division of the Attorney General's office. In 1958, he also worked on the Michigan election campaign. During 1959-60, Miller served as administrative assistant to the late Joseph J. Kowalski, Democratic Floor Leader of the Michigan House of Representatives. In 1961, he worked in the Executive Office of the State of Michigan, serving as a legislative assistant to former Governor John B. Swainson. Subjects include the Civil War Centennial Commission (1959-61 ); Kierdorf Case (1958); Midwest Democratic State Legislators for Kennedy (1960); Michigan State Elections (1958-60); the 1964 presidential election, including Rural Americans for Johnson-Humphrey. Correspondents include John M. Bailey, Zoltan A. Ferency, Joseph J. Kowalski, Neil Staebler, and G. Mennen Williams.
